Destiny watched the sky, golden eyes glittering like fire as the sun reflected it's bright prowess against them. She faced the sun, but did not watch it. Instead she watched the clouds pass by and change in front of her muzzle. The sky was beautiful here, she thought vaguely as she felt the sun warm her recently-cleaned pelt. It reminded her of her foster pup that she had once taken care of. They had sat together and stared at the sky for hours.
Yes, she had taken care of someone else's pup. It was almost unsettling, but in a way it made up for her inner problems. Barren! The female was almost sure of it. There was a possibility that Quaxo had merely been sterile, but she could never think that of him. Her handsome mate had died while hunting caribou, though Destiny had told no one. It had shattered her heart, and she refused to think about it.
Destiny had trained her foster pup to be the alpha of her old pack, before she left. After all, she was once their beta! Those memories were pleasant, but they were the past now. Now was not the time to think of the past, now was the time to think of the future.
It was indeed beautiful...but didn't the sun get lonely? It would be horrible to travel the same path every day by herself, if she was the sun. She'd find someone to walk that path with her. Perhaps the moon was the sun's mate, but they were not allowed to see each other. That was how the story went, at least.
The legend her pack spoke of speaks of Suntail and Moondust, two lovestruck wolves in seperate packs who mated the day they met. The seperate packs had been furious, and seperated the two so far away from each other that they could almost never see each other. Moondust birthed many pups. So many in fact, that they became the stars. Suntail rarely saw more than one or two of his children, and only glimpses of them. However, every so often Suntail and Moondust would come together when their packs were not looking, and their love was so great that it cast a breif darkness over the land because no mortal wolf could love as deeply as the Sun and the Moon.
That was how the story went, at least.
